4 Happy Paws Dog Training is a professional dog training service based in North Somerset. We provide private training sessions, Puppy School co-ordinated puppy classes and behaviour consultations. Whether you have a young pup or a mature pooch, we can provide the right training programme for you and your four-legged friend. 

4 Happy Paws Dog Training is run by Julie Smith, who has over 15 years professional experience in dog training. Before founding 4 Happy Paws, Julie worked for one of the UK's leading assistance dog charities as an Instructor, training dogs to help children and adults with physical disabilities carry out daily tasks, and dealing with any behavioural issues. Julie also competed at a high level in competitive obedience with her pet dogs. Julie only uses kind, reward-based training techniques.

Julie is a Registered Animal Training Instructor with the Animal Behaviour & Training Council.

Dog Training Services 

Classes are currently being held in Clevedon (1st Clevedon Scout Hut) and Portishead (Avon Way Hall).

When you book a place on our Puppy School course you will receive a box of goodies from Natures Menu, the proud sponsors of Puppy School and the award-winning producers of raw and organic dog food.

Puppy Classes

Our puppy classes are affilated to Puppy School, which was founded by and is directed by world renowned dog trainer and behaviourist Gwen Bailey. This class is open to vaccinated pups under 5 months. All classes are kept small so we can give you and your pup 1-1 attention.

On the course we cover:​

Loose lead walking

Sit, stand and down

Coming when called

Stay/Wait

Food manners

Play and play biting

How to handle and groom your dog

The course is £78 and consists of 6 one-hour evening classes. Telephone/email support included.

Adolescent Classes

Our adolescent class is for dogs aged between 5 and 18 months, and is specifically designed to guide you and your dog through that 'tricky teenage stage'.

 

On the course we cover:

Manners

Dealing with distractions

 Relationship building games and exercises

Sit/Down

Stay/Wait

Loose lead walking

Jumping up/Greeting people

The course is £65 and consists of 6 one-hour evening classes.

Private Training 

If a group or class environment is not suitable for you or your dog then private training sessions can be arranged.

 

1-1 sessions are available covering a variety of issues from pulling on the lead to your dog not coming back when called and more complex behavioural issues.

 

All training methods used are positive, using treats and play as a reward.

 

A full detailed personalised written plan covering everything discussed is provided following the training session.

The sessions cost £50 and last approximately an hour and a half. Various packages are available depending on training requirements.
